JUBA | 7th May, 2026 — The landscape of youth sports and education in South Sudan is reaching a new milestone. The South Sudan Football Federation (SSFA), in partnership with CAF and the Motsepe Foundation, is preparing to officially launch a newly completed construction project at Libya 1 Primary School.

The project, which includes modern classroom blocks and a new Headmaster’s office, was awarded to the school as a direct result of the athletic excellence of its students. In 2023, the Libya 1 Under-15 boys’ team represented South Sudan in the CAF African Schools Championship in Tanzania, where they secured an impressive third-place finish.

A Reward for Excellence

According to the Secretary General of the SSFA, the new facilities serve as a “trophy” and a lasting prize for the team’s hard work on the continental stage.

“We came today to have a final look at how the construction has finished… this project was a reward from the Motsepe Foundation in coordination with CAF.” — SSFA Secretary General

Final Inspections and Global Standards

The site visit included a joint consultation with Dina Shitula, an infrastructure consultant for CAF. Her presence ensures that the facilities meet the rigorous standards required by the governing body before the keys are officially handed over to the school administration.

“I’m here to do the final inspection for the Libya 1 Primary School project, for which they won the prize money for the second runner-up in the Under-15 boys’ CAF Schools competition.”

Michael Buyamono, the Headmaster of Libya 1 Primary School, expressed his gratitude for the project, which has been in development since 2022.

• Enhanced Facilities: The school will now benefit from upgraded classrooms.

• Administrative Space: New offices for the Headmaster and Deputy are ready for use.

• Student Impact: Students are expected to move into the new spaces immediately following the “go-ahead” from the contractors.

Looking Ahead

While the construction is physically complete, the SSFA and CAF are currently coordinating a date for the Official Launching Ceremony, expected to take place later this year. The event will be attended by high-ranking CAF officials to witness this significant milestone in South Sudanese football and educational development.

“We are waiting for the inauguration so the children can enter in and we can begin enjoying these new facilities,” said Headmaster Buyamono.
