This marks the first time such a high-level technical program has been hosted in the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region, signalling a new era for grassroots football.

Addressing participants from across the regionโ€”including Abyei, Rumbek, Aweil, and Rajaโ€”officials designated Wau as the โ€œcapital city of sports,โ€ chosen for its strategic role as a hub for neighboring associations.

The Western Bahr el Ghazal State Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, Honorable Mohammed Ali Gody, highlighted that while the state is home to immense talent, many players remain unnoticed due to a lack of scouting. He presented a bold vision for the future, noting that Wau town alone boasts 43 playgrounds, with rural areas like Bussere offering vast spaces capable of hosting multiple football academies.

โ€œIf Juba lacks space for national development projects, Wau is ready and equipped to host them,โ€ Ali stated, envisioning a future where standardized infrastructure could eventually allow South Sudan to host the Africa Cup of Nations.

SSFF Executive Committee Member Mujahid Ali emphasized that this course is a pillar of the Federationโ€™s four-year strategic plan. This comprehensive roadmap focuses on:

* Technical and Administrative Growth: Developing high-level cadres and officials.

* Talent Scouting: Actively identifying athletes within local communities.

* Infrastructure: Rehabilitating stadiums and playgrounds nationwide.

Wau Football Association President, Santino, urged the participants to embrace the โ€œmultiplier effectโ€. โ€œIf you go back and give the knowledge you have gained, you will train hundreds more who will go into the grassroots to identify the youth living inside our communities,โ€ he noted.

The program commence with a clear directive to the new scouts: do not store this knowledge away, but implement it immediately to showcase the untapped talent across South Sudan.
